Destinations represent the final output stage for your data, having transformed and reconfigured it to the format of your choice. Configuring a destination allows Datatap to communicate with your visualization software (e.g. SQL Database, Google Sheets, etc.).
In addition to passing data to the Explore and Present Elements, the Adverity Platform can be configured to export to a wide variety of different platforms and visualization software. Destinations are different to Connections and Datastreams, in that Adverity uses a few main categories that can be widely customized to interface with your chosen visualization software. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will use a universally accessible Destination, a Google Drive environment.
-
Firstly, navigate to 'Transfer'. This will take you straight to the Destinations list.
-
As this is your first Destination, the next page will show a blank list. Click on '+Add' to create a new one.
-
Select 'File' from the list of available Destinations.
-
Datatap will take you to the next screen to select a Connection to use with this Destination. As you don't have one yet, you will need to select 'Setup a new connection'.
-
Repeat the steps as per “Your First Datastream”, but this time selecting "File Google Drive" as the Connection to create.
-
Authorize the Connection using your Google login credentials.
-
With your Connection created, you will be diverted to the final stage, configuring your Destination:
a. Name your Destination.
b. Under “Connection”, ensure the Google Drive Connection you just created is selected.
c. Select the Destination URL format ("gdrive" in this case) from the drop-down list, and create a Name for the folder in which the extracts will be stored after export. If the folder name does not already exist, Datatap will create it upon first export.
d. Since you currently haven't created any Schema, un-tick the “Schema Mapping” box. This will create the "Format Column Name" checkbox to provide some default reformatting options if you wish to use them (replace spaces with "_" and make all letters lower case). -
Click “Save”.
-
Return to the “Overview” screen and:
a. Open the 'Workspace Picker'.
b. Click 'Administration'. -
In the Workspace Settings, use the 'Destination' drop-down to assign the Destination you just created to this Workspace.
-
Once again, save your changes.
-
Return to the “Connect” section.
-
Click on Datastreams in the Navigation Bar.
-
Select your Datastream.
-
Enable the Destination.
-
Now, if you run a Fetch action, the results will automatically be pushed to the selected Destination, your Google Drive.
"What Did I Just Do?"
Your data journey is now complete, from Datasource to Destination. You have created the framework for data analysis, but still have yet to experiment with the most powerful functions of data analysis and harmonization that Adverity offers.
