The Dashboard Segment is a filter that is applied to all widgets on a dashboard.
Dashboard Segments can be extremely useful, as you can update the filters for an entire dashboard at once, without having to adjust every single widget filter. Specifically when dashboards are cloned, filters set per widget can lead to empty dashboards. Having an easily adjustable dashboard segment will prevent this from happening.
In general, it is recommended to start every dashboard by setting up the relevant filters (e.g. datasource, mediaplan etc.).

Dashboard Segments use the same logic as a dimension filters. Read the dedicated article for further information: Dimension Filters.

TYPES OF DASHBOARD SEGEMENTS
There are 3 types of dashboard segments.
- Narrow: This is the default segment type and most commonly used. It filters all widgets and can easily be adjusted each time a modification is needed. It uses "AND" logic, meaning that any widgets that have their own filters first apply the dashboard segment and then apply the individual widget filter on top, narrowing down the displayed data.
- Extend: This segment type is used very rarely. It filters all widgets and can easily be adjusted. It uses "OR" logic, meaning that any widgets that have their own filters are broadened by the dashboard segment, extending the displayed data.
